Mamata Banerjee Urges PM Modi to Set Up Fast-Track Courts for Rape Cases

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for the creation of specialized fast-track courts to expedite the handling of rape cases.

Call for Central Legislation

Mamata Banerjee highlighted the alarming statistic that almost 90 rape cases occur daily in India, stating that this shakes the confidence and conscience of society. She urged the need for stringent central legislation to prescribe exemplary punishment for perpetrators of such crimes.

Demand for Swift Justice

In her letter, Mamata Banerjee stressed the importance of making women feel safe and secure. She called for comprehensive measures to address these serious and sensitive issues, including the speedy trial of rape cases.

Abhishek Banerjee’s Support

Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, posting on X (formerly Twitter) to demand larger reforms for delivering swift justice to rape victims across India.
