The Pensions Regulator (TPR) announced the appointment of Mary Starks to lead a comprehensive review, which is being conducted by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The review is part of the government’s plan to ensure that public bodies are accountable and working in the best interests of taxpayers. The Minister for Pensions, Laura Trott MP MBE, has set a target for Starks to deliver the report by May 2023.
Starks has a wealth of experience in the regulatory sector and has previously served as an executive member of the Board and Director of Competition and Chief Economist at the Financial Conduct Authority. She has also served as Executive Director of Ofgem, where she was responsible for safeguarding public confidence while promoting innovation and customer behavior in the energy sector.
In her new role as TPR Lead Reviewer, Starks is tasked with identifying efficiency savings of over five percent and ensuring that TPR is working effectively to protect the interests of savers and employees in the workplace pensions sector. Starks is excited to take on this role and has expressed her desire to hear from stakeholders across the pensions sector and work closely with the teams at DWP and TPR.
