Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, marked a significant milestone by laying the foundation stone for a Synthetic Artificial Turf at Umbuda in Ribhoi District. Joined by Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, the inauguration signals a major boost in sports infrastructure development in the region, with a project cost of ₹10.93 crore.
Expressing the government’s dedication to bolstering sports infrastructure, Chief Minister Sangma affirmed, “The government is committed to creating sports infrastructure across the State. Currently, we are implementing projects worth ₹700 crore, with additional funds earmarked for the next financial year to further enhance infrastructure development.”
Highlighting the broader vision for youth development, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the significance of investing in sectors beyond sports. “This year, we have proposed over ₹2800 crore in the youth budget, aiming to invest in areas like education, music, culture, and entrepreneurship. These investments will unleash and optimize the positive energy of our youth,” he stated.
“The Synthetic Turf project underscores Meghalaya’s proactive approach towards nurturing sporting talent and providing world-class facilities for athletes. It aligns with the government’s broader agenda of holistic youth development, aiming to empower the younger generation through diverse avenues of education, culture, and entrepreneurship”.
As the construction of the Synthetic Turf at Umbuda progresses, it promises to emerge as a hub for sporting activities, fostering talent development and promoting a culture of fitness and well-being among the youth of Meghalaya. The government’s commitment to investing in sports infrastructure reflects its dedication to nurturing a vibrant and dynamic sporting ecosystem in the state.
