Ministry of Coal Executes Agreements for Three Coal Mines

Ministry of Coal: The Ministry of Coal has achieved a significant milestone in India’s commercial coal mining sector by successfully executing Coal Mining Development and Production Agreements for three coal mines auctioned under the Second Attempt of the 7th Round.

The mines for which agreements were signed are the Machhakata (Revised) coal mine, the Kudanali Lubri coal mine, and the Sakhigopal-B Kakurhi coal mine. The mines have been awarded to NLC India Limited, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited, and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited, respectively, as successful bidders.

This development is expected to pave the way for substantial economic benefits, with an estimated annual revenue generation of approximately ₹2,991.20 crores from these mines. The production capacity at an aggregated Peak Rate Capacity is projected to reach around 30.00 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA). Moreover, the operationalization of these mines is anticipated to create approximately 40,560 direct and indirect employment.

To bring these mines into operation, a total investment of approximately ₹4,500 crores will be mobilized, reflecting a significant commitment to infrastructure development in the coal mining sector.

This initiative aligns closely with India’s goal of achieving Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in energy production. By boosting domestic coal production, the country aims to enhance energy security while reducing dependency on imports. Additionally, the development of these mines will contribute to regional development, bolstering local economies through job creation and infrastructure investments.

The successful execution of these agreements underscores the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable growth in the coal mining sector, fostering innovation, and ensuring efficient resource utilization. It marks a crucial step forward in India’s journey towards achieving energy sufficiency and economic resilience in the years to come.
