The Ministry of Coal has reported a substantial growth in coal production, reaching 92.87 Million tonnes (MT) in December 2023, marking a 10.75% increase from the previous year. Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed significantly to this achievement, with a production rise of 8.27% to 71.86 MT. The cumulative coal production for FY 23-24 witnessed a notable jump to 684.31 MT, showcasing a growth of 12.47%.
In terms of dispatch, December 2023 recorded significant progress with 86.23 MT, an 8.36% increase from December 2022. CIL’s dispatch also showed positive growth at 66.10 MT, reflecting a 5.49% rise. The cumulative coal dispatch for FY’ 23-24 reached 709.80 MT, demonstrating an 11.36% growth.
The unprecedented upswing in the coal sector is attributed to the pivotal role played by Coal PSUs, ensuring seamless distribution nationwide. This remarkable growth underscores the dedication of the coal supply chain, reaffirming the Ministry of Coal’s commitment to maintaining consistent coal production and dispatch. This commitment ensures an uninterrupted supply, contributing to a reliable and resilient energy sector.
