Ministry of Coal Transfers Rs. 704 Crores to 6 States from Coal Mine Auction Proceeds.

In a significant stride towards fostering growth and development, the Ministry of Coal has taken a momentous step by transferring a substantial upfront amount of Rs. 704 crores to six coal-bearing states. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal are the beneficiaries of this financial infusion, marking a pivotal move to empower these regions.

The allocated sum of Rs. 704 crores represents the initial installment of the upfront amount for 18 coal mines, which were successfully auctioned under the 6th round and 2nd attempt of the 5th round of commercial coal mine auctions. This accomplishment has been made possible by the reform of the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement (CMDPA), which paved the way for this noteworthy development.

Under the CMDPA framework, successful bidders have dutifully remitted the first installment of the upfront amount to the Ministry of Coal. It is important to note that the subsequent three installments will be directly submitted by the bidders to their respective State Governments, further enhancing their role in propelling the developmental trajectory of these states.

The infusion of this substantial financial corpus is poised to be a game-changer for the recipient state governments. These funds will be strategically channeled into vital sectors such as infrastructure development, education facilities, healthcare services, and a spectrum of welfare initiatives. The ripple effects of these investments will be felt across communities, catalyzing inclusive and holistic growth.

Since the inception of commercial coal mining, the coal sector has been an instrumental revenue source for State governments. Beyond the immediate financial influx, the operational coal mines are poised to contribute to the prosperity of these states through royalties and monthly premiums. The revenue stream generated from these mines could be harnessed by the states to fortify their fiscal capacities, enabling the execution of essential welfare programs, uplifting marginalized communities, and providing impetus to pivotal development projects.
