The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, convened a workshop in Bengaluru focusing on the challenges and opportunities in the granite and marble mining sector. The inaugural session saw Secretary V.L. Kantha Rao highlighting the government’s initiatives and reforms aimed at fostering transparency and efficiency in mining operations.
Secretary V.L. Kantha Rao emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between central and state governments to reform the minor mineral sector comprehensively. He stressed the significance of making exploration data accessible through the NGDR Portal, facilitating transparency and informed decision-making.
Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, Government of Karnataka, highlighted the need for collaboration between the government and industry to address administrative and technological challenges in mining. She emphasized sustainability and welcomed innovative solutions to industry issues.
Following the inaugural session, stakeholders made presentations on various aspects of granite and marble mining, addressing concerns raised by industry associations. State governments of Karnataka, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana shared best practices in regulating these minerals.
Presentations by experts from the National Council for Cement and Building Material and the Indian Bureau of Mines further enriched the discussions, focusing on the role of the granite and marble industry in construction and sustainable development frameworks in mining.
The workshop provided a platform for constructive dialogue among government officials, industry representatives, and experts, fostering collaboration and driving initiatives to enhance the granite and marble mining sector’s efficiency and sustainability.
