On the 21st of January Prime Minister Modi greets the people of Tripura on their foundation day. He said, “The last 5 years have been remarkable for the development path of Tripura. From agriculture to industry, education to health, the state has seen a sea of change. This trend will continue in the coming times”.

Northeast India is home to the state of Tripura. It is the third-smallest state in the country, covering 10,491 km2 (4,051 sq mi), and the seventh-least populous state with a population of 36.71 lacks (3.67 million).
To its east lie Assam and Mizoram, while Bangladesh lies to its north, south, and west. Agartala, the capital and the largest city in the state, is located in one of the 8 districts of Tripura. The majority of the population in Tripura consists of Bengalis, with 19 different tribal communities. The state’s official languages are Bengali, English, and Kokborok.
Tripura has a long history. At its peak, the Twipra Kingdom included the whole eastern region of Bengal from the Brahmaputra River in the north and west to Burma in the east, as well as the Bay of Bengal in the south, during the 14th and 15th centuries AD.
After the last ruler of the princely state of Tripura, Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarma, reigned from 1947 to 1949 in Agartala, the kingdom was merged with India on nine September 1949 and the administration was taken over on fifteen October 1949.
Tripura became a Union Territory on 1 July 1963 and attained full statehood on 21 January 1972.
