PM Modi to Launch ‘Mission Mausam’ at IMD’s 150th Foundation Day

On January 14, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, scheduled at 10:30 AM, will also feature a speech by the Prime Minister.

Launch of ‘Mission Mausam’

A key highlight of the event will be the launch of ‘Mission Mausam’. This mission aims to transform India into a ‘Weather-ready and Climate-smart’ nation by enhancing weather surveillance technologies.

It will focus on the development of next-generation radars, high-resolution atmospheric observations, satellites, and advanced computational systems. The mission will also improve air quality monitoring, providing long-term data for better weather management strategies.

IMD Vision-2047 Document Release

On this occasion, PM Modi will release the IMD Vision-2047 document, which outlines plans for weather forecasting, climate change adaptation, and resilience building. The vision document emphasizes enhancing weather forecasting systems and mitigating climate risks in the coming decades.

Showcasing IMD’s Achievements

A series of events and workshops will also be organized to celebrate the rich history and contributions of IMD over the past 150 years. These activities will highlight the department’s role in making India more climate-resilient, demonstrating the government’s commitment to providing essential weather and climate services for the nation’s development.
