The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is working towards strengthening the food processing and preservation infrastructure in India by reducing the gap between production and processing capacity and minimizing post-harvest losses.
The main initiative taken by MoFPI is the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), a Central Sector Umbrella scheme that has been implemented since 2016-17. As a result of this scheme, over 194 Lakh Metric Tonnes of preservation and processing capacity has been created.
As part of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan”, MoFPI is also implementing the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme to provide financial, technical, and business support to Micro Food Processing Enterprises. So far, 18,472 beneficiaries have been sanctioned under this scheme.
Additionally, MoFPI is also implementing the Central Sector Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) to facilitate the expansion of food processing capacity by creating champion brands in the food processing sector. This scheme has a total outlay of Rs 10,900 Cr for a period of 6 years (2021-2026) and has approved 180 proposals for assistance under different categories.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is taking significant steps to enhance the food processing and preservation infrastructure in India through various schemes, providing support to micro-enterprises, and promoting the expansion of food processing capacity.
