The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northwest India, East India, Northeast India, Central, West and South India from August 16 to 19, 2023.
Northwest India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh on August 16, and over Uttarakhand from August 16 to 19, 2023. Thunderstorms and lightning are also very likely over the rest parts of Northwest India during the next 5 days.
East India
Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall activity is very likely over Gangetic West Bengal from August 16 to 17, over Jharkhand from August 15 to 18, over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on August 16, over Odisha from August 16 to 19, and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 16 and 17. Isolated very heavy falls are also likely over Odisha on August 17 and 18.
Gusty winds with wind speeds reaching 30-40 mph and gusting to 50 kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on August 16.
Northeast India
Light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall activity is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 16 to 19.
The IMD has also advised people to take precautions and stay safe during the upcoming weather conditions. These precautions include:
- Avoid traveling during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
- Stay indoors if possible.
- If you must travel, be careful of slippery roads and flooding.

Central, West, and South India
- Chhattisgarh: Light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 17, with isolated heavy rainfall activity. The rainfall activity is expected to increase on August 18 and 19, with widespread rainfall and isolated heavy rainfall.
- East Madhya Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 19, with isolated heavy rainfall activity.
- Vidarbha: Light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 19, with isolated heavy rainfall activity.
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam: Light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 19, with isolated heavy rainfall activity.
- Telangana: Light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 19, with isolated heavy rainfall activity.
The remaining parts of these regions are likely to experience subdued rainfall activity during the next 5 days.
The IMD has advised people to take precautions in view of the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. They should stay away from rivers and streams, and avoid driving or walking in flooded areas. They should also be careful of loose objects that may be blown by strong winds.
