Monsoon: Favorable Conditions for Further Advance
Conditions are favorable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into additional parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Northwest Bay of Bengal. This advancement is expected over the next four days, reaching parts of Gangetic West Bengal, the remaining regions of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and parts of Bihar.

A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam, combined with an east-west trough from northwest Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim to northeast Assam, influences current weather patterns. Strong southwesterly and southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the northeastern states are contributing to these conditions.
Northeast India
- Rainfall: Widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim for the next five days.
- Heavy Rainfall: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Particularly, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Assam & Meghalaya from June 17th-21st, Arunachal Pradesh on June 18th, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on June 17th-18th, with exceptionally heavy rainfall expected over Assam & Meghalaya on June 18th.
East India
- Rainfall: Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha for the next three days, with an increase expected thereafter.
- Heavy Rainfall: Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Odisha on June 20th-21st, and over Jharkhand & Gangetic West Bengal on June 21st.
West India

- Rainfall: Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada for the next four to five days.
- Heavy Rainfall: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa from June 18th-21st, and over Madhya Maharashtra on June 19th-20th.
South India
- Rainfall: Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is expected over Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Lakshadweep. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal over the next five days.
- Heavy Rainfall: Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe on June 17th, 18th, and 21st; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on June 18th and 21st; and Coastal Karnataka on June 20th and 21st.
Central India
- Rainfall: Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-60 kmph) is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh for the next five days.
