Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rainfall Predicted for Several Indian States

Monsoon: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided an update on the advance of the Southwest Monsoon, which is currently passing through 26°N/65°E, Jaisalmer, Churu, Hissar, Karnal, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, and 31.5°N/74.5°E. Conditions favor the monsoon to progress further into parts of West Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Punjab over the next two days.

Monsoon: Weather Systems and Forecast:

A cyclonic circulation over southeast Pakistan adjoining Kutch in the lower tropospheric levels, another over north Gujarat in the middle tropospheric levels, and an off-shore trough along the Maharashtra-Kerala coasts are influencing the weather. These systems are expected to bring various rainfall patterns across India:

  1. Monsoon: Rainfall Distribution:
    • Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, Gujarat State.
    • They were scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.
    • Over the next five days, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and North & South Interior Karnataka are expected to experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall.
  2. Heavy Rainfall Alerts:
    • Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Saurashtra & Kutch, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka on July 1st.
    • Gujarat Region from July 2nd to 5th.
    • Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 2nd and 4th.
    • Konkan & Goa on July 2nd and 3rd.
    • Coastal Karnataka from July 1st to 3rd.
    • Isolated very heavy rainfall over Gujarat Region on July 1st and 5th.
    • Madhya Maharashtra on July 1st.
    • Konkan & Goa on July 1st, 4th, and 5th.
  3. North and Central India Forecast:
    • Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning likely over Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast India over the next five days.
    • Isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar on July 3rd and 4th.
    • Delhi and Jharkhand from July 1st to 3rd.
    • Haryana-Chandigarh and West Madhya Pradesh on July 4th.
    • East Rajasthan from July 2nd to 5th.
    • Gangetic West Bengal on July 3rd.
    • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on July 3rd and 5th.
    • Chhattisgarh from July 1st to 5th.
    • Isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar on July 1st and 2nd.
    • Uttarakhand from July 1st to 5th.
    • Haryana-Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh from July 1st to 3rd.
    • East Rajasthan on July 1st.
    • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on July 1st and 3rd.
    • Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from July 1st to 5th.
    • Isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on July 1st.

Residents and authorities in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and associated weather conditions.
