Tragedy Strikes Mumbai: Death Toll Rises to 14 in Hoarding Collapse

Mumbai Hoarding Collapse: President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area, where a massive hoarding collapse claimed the lives of 14 individuals. Offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, President Murmu extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured and the effectiveness of ongoing rescue operations.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) mobilized overnight to conduct rescue efforts, aiding those trapped beneath the rubble. With at least 74 individuals sustaining injuries, the situation remains critical as rescue teams work tirelessly to locate survivors amidst the debris.

NDRF inspector Gaurav Chauhan reported the recovery of eight bodies while highlighting the challenges posed by the collapsed structure, including the presence of four bodies still buried under the wreckage. The hazardous conditions, exacerbated by the proximity of a petrol pump, further complicate rescue efforts.

The tragic incident unfolded on Monday as a 70-meter hoarding collapsed amid heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Mumbai. The illegal structure fell onto a petrol pump at Ghatkopar’s Cheddanagar Junction, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries.

As the nation mourns the loss of lives and prays for the well-being of the injured, President Droupadi Murmu’s sentiments echo the collective grief and solidarity with the affected families. In the face of adversity, efforts persist to provide relief and support to those impacted by this unfortunate event.
