An Indian politician, Murli Manohar Joshi was born on 5 January 1934. He was the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) between 1991 and 1993 and is the former Member of Parliament for the Kanpur parliamentary constituency. He used to be a professor of physics at the University of Allahabad. The BJP would not have been the same without him; he was one of the key leaders. Joshi later became the Union Minister of Human Resources Development in the National Democratic Alliance government. In 2017, Joshi was awarded the second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, by the Government of India.
