Introduction to National Milk Day 2024

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), part of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, will celebrate National Milk Day on November 26, 2024, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. The event marks the 103rd birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the “Father of the White Revolution in India.”

Dr. Verghese Kurien’s contributions to India’s dairy sector are monumental, and his leadership laid the foundation for a thriving dairy industry in the country. National Milk Day serves as a reminder of his vision and legacy, which have been pivotal in strengthening India’s dairy sector.

Chief Guests and Dignitaries at the Event

The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, will grace the event as the Chief Guest. Alongside him, Ministers of State, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel and Shri George Kurian, along with other dignitaries, will celebrate this momentous occasion, honoring the contributions of the dairy sector.

National Gopal Ratna Awards 2024

One of the highlights of the event will be the National Gopal Ratna Awards, which will be conferred in three categories:

  1. Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds
  2. Best Artificial Insemination Technician
  3. Best Dairy Cooperative Society/ Milk Producer Company/ Dairy Farmer Producer Organization

A new special award will also be given to winners from the North Eastern Region in each category.

Launch of Key Publications

Two significant publications will be launched at the event:

  • Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics (BAHS)-2023: Offering vital insights into livestock and dairy sector trends.
  • Manual on the Identification of Elite Cows: Aimed at building a national Milch herd by identifying elite dairy animals, ensuring better breeding and milk production.

The All India Motor Rally

The culmination of the All India Motor Rally, organized by Amul in association with Bajaj Auto, will be a special highlight. The rally, which began on November 19, 2024, from Himmatnagar, Gujarat, will reach New Delhi, bringing together participants from across the country. The rally will conclude at the Manekshaw Centre, where the Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh will receive the groups.

Panel Discussions on Key Topics

Two panel discussions will delve into important topics related to the dairy and livestock sectors:

  1. Women-Led Livestock and Dairy Sector: Focus on gender inclusivity and empowerment in the dairy industry.
