The Naval Aviation Museum is a part of the South Goa Naval Area, which is located on the western coast of India. The museum was officially inaugurated in December 1992 by Chief Minister Girish Mahajan and has been hosting some remarkable aircraft and exhibits.

History

The Naval Aviation Museum is a museum of naval aviation that is located in the town of Goa. The museum traces the history of Indian naval aviation from 1906 through to the present day. The Naval Aviation Museum traces its history back to 1883 when the first prototype aircraft, a kite, was designed and built by Lieutenant Percy Scott. From this time on, Indian Naval aviation has been an integral part of the history of India’s military aviation.

Interior

The Naval Aviation Museum is located in the imposing main gate of the Naval Air Station at Dabolim, south Goa. The museum has a collection of historical aircraft and memorabilia from both pre-independence and post independence period. The Naval Aviation Museum has been the pride of Goa. It’s a one-of-its-kind museum in the country which offers a glimpse into the history of aviation. The museum is divided into three galleries: ‘The Pioneers Gallery’, ‘The Indian Navy Gallery’ and ‘The Aviation Gallery’.

Exterior

The exterior of the museum is surrounded by a wooden fence, which also includes ‘horses-leg’ gates at either end. There is a signboard on the gate bearing the name of the museum in English, and Spanish. The entrance to the museums is through two arched-doorways made of pink stone with carvings of Hindu and Muslim Gods.

Military Aircraft

The Naval Aviation Museum is home to a collection of vintage military aircraft dating back more than 70 years. The museum is located at Vasco Da Gama, the busiest seaport in south Goa, and it houses more than fifty aircraft. The Naval Aviation Museum is a tribute to the Indian Naval Air Squadron that was established in the year 1927. It’s now the largest and most comprehensive museum in India. The museum is spread across 20 acres of land, and has an extensively diverse display of aircraft. The museum also houses a number of military artifacts and memorabilia from World War II to present day.

The museum has a collection of aircraft that includes marine carrier, helicopter and fighter planes. The most interesting one however is an Avro Lancaster bomber, which was used during the Second World War. The Naval Aviation Museum has on display more than 70 aircraft from all over the world, including a De Havilland Chipmunk, North American P-51 Mustang, and F4U Corsair.

Established in 2005 by Indian Navy, this museum is the most important naval heritage and tourist attraction in India. It’s also located in south Goa where you can see the beautiful natural landscapes of this region. It is open for public visits and has a variety of exhibitions on display. It also has a library on the history of aviation, as well as an information room showcasing aircraft and helicopters of various countries worldwide. The Naval Aviation Museum was founded in the year 2006 and is run by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Entry Fee & Timings

The Naval Aviation Museum is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Entry is free for all visitors. The Naval Aviation Museum in Goa is open from Monday through Sunday. It is one of the most popular attractions on the historic Goan coast and is located at Talaulim on the shore of Salcette Creek, near Panjim.

Things to do

The Naval Aviation Museum, South Goa is one of the most sought after attractions in India. It displays a large collection of aircrafts from various eras and their specifications. These include the WWII vintage Hawker Hurricane Mk., the British de Havilland SeaVixen, Fairey Firefly and De Havilland Sea Venom. Naval Aviation Museum is the only museum in India which focuses on Naval aviation. The museum was established in 1995 and is located in Goa’s Margao, a city known as the “City of Saints”. Aside from various aircraft and equipment displayed, there are also interactive displays that allow visitors to experience what it would be like to be an aviator.
