NCB’s Landmark Bust: 2 Darknet Drug Cartels Dismantled, 22 Arrested with Massive LSD Haul

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has scored a monumental triumph in its relentless battle against drug trafficking by successfully dismantling two international drug cartels that were operating through the dark net. The crackdown has led to the arrest of 22 individuals and the confiscation of an astounding 29,103 blots of LSD, a hallucinogenic drug notorious for its potency.

The Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah, took to Twitter to express his heartfelt congratulations to the NCB for this major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against drug abuse. In his tweet, Shri Amit Shah lauded the NCB’s accomplishment, stating that it is a significant stride towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Drug-Free India. The Home Minister emphasized that this achievement will serve as a morale booster for all agencies involved in the battle against drug trafficking. He further asserted that no matter how advanced the technology employed by drug traffickers, they will never escape the determined grasp of India’s law enforcement agencies.

Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with various governmental agencies, is unceasingly committed to achieving a Drug-Free India. The approach of adopting a comprehensive strategy, both from the top-down and bottom-up, has been a cornerstone of this relentless pursuit. Notably, the NCB’s Delhi zonal unit played a pivotal role in the recent success.

The NCB’s diligent efforts culminated in the dismantling of two major LSD cartels operating on the darknet within a span of just three months. The agency registered a total of six cases in this matter, resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals involved in the import and pan-India distribution of drugs. An astonishing seizure of 29,013 LSD blots, 472 grams of MDMA Powder, and drug money amounting to Rs.51.38 lakh underscores the magnitude of this operation.

The cartels had ingeniously utilized social media platforms for communication and employed discreet couriers with fake addresses and mobile numbers for delivery. Transactions were exclusively conducted through cryptocurrencies, leaving no verbal trace between vendors and buyers. With meticulous cyber patrolling, technical expertise, and field surveillance, the NCB orchestrated an operation on April 19, 2023, which proved to be a resounding success. The operation resulted in the dismantling of the second-largest darknet LSD cartel in the country, with the seizure of over 15,000 LSD blots and significant amounts of MDMA, alongside the freezing of drug money totaling Rs.24.65 lakh.

LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), a potent hallucinogenic substance, is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, making its detection and prevention particularly challenging. The NCB remains unwavering in its determination to curb the misuse of digital platforms for drug trafficking. The agency recently organized a “DARKATHON,” aimed at encouraging innovative solutions from young minds to counter the threat of drug trafficking through the darknet.

The recent triumph of the NCB underscores the resolute commitment of India’s law enforcement agencies to uproot the menace of drug trafficking and pave the way for a healthier and drug-free society.
