NEET-PG 2024 Cancelled Amidst Outrage: CBI Investigation Begins

NEET-PG: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control of the investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted earlier this year. The move comes amidst widespread criticism directed at the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the marking system of NEET-UG 2024.

Following the announcement of NEET-UG 2024 results, which saw 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720/720, concerns were raised regarding possible paper leaks and inconsistencies in marking. Most of these top scorers hailed from a single center in Faridabad, prompting suspicions of unfair practices.

In response to escalating protests and demands for accountability, the Education Ministry canceled the NEET-PG 2024 and postponed the UGC-NET examinations. Additionally, NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh was placed on “compulsory wait” as part of administrative changes.

The government has enacted stringent laws to combat exam malpractice, prescribing penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment and fines up to ₹1 crore for offenders. Concurrently, a seven-member panel has been tasked with recommending reforms for the NTA to ensure fair and transparent conduct of examinations nationwide.

As the controversy unfolds, the Education Ministry has assured affected candidates that a new date for the NEET-PG 2024 exam will be announced soon. The developments underscore ongoing efforts to restore confidence in India’s central examinations amidst growing scrutiny and public outcry.
