New Year Celebration: As the countdown to the New Year begins, several Indian cities are gearing up for a safe and joyous celebration. However, in light of recent events and the ongoing pandemic, authorities in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, and Lucknow have implemented stringent restrictions to ensure the well-being of citizens during the festivities.
1. Delhi – Vigilance in Key Areas
In the heart of the nation, Delhi Traffic Police is leaving no stone unturned to guarantee a smooth transition into the New Year. A deployment of 2,500 personnel will manage traffic flow, with an additional 250 teams dedicated to checking drunken driving on New Year’s Eve. Areas such as Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas, and South Extension markets will be under extra vigilance, ensuring a secure environment for all revelers.
2. Mumbai – Section 144 and Airspace Restrictions
Mumbai Police has imposed section 144 in the city, extending its duration till January 18. Beyond this, a comprehensive set of restrictions includes a ban on the flying of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, para motors, paragliders, and hot air balloons over the city. This aerial embargo will remain in force for 30 days. To enforce these measures, approximately 2,500 police personnel, including high-ranking officers, will be strategically deployed, ensuring the safety of every citizen partaking in the New Year festivities.
3. Goa – Curbing Narcotic Drugs
In the vibrant state of Goa, known for its lively New Year celebrations, the police are taking proactive steps to curb the use of narcotic drugs during the festivities. Special teams will be on high alert across the coastal belt, including locations hosting events like the Sunburn EDM festival. With tourists already streaming in, the focus is on creating a secure environment for all to revel in the welcoming of the New Year.
4. Bengaluru – Stringent Checks and Traffic Restrictions
Bengaluru, the IT hub, is not only anticipating large gatherings but is also taking strict measures to ensure public safety. With stringent checks on drunk driving, traffic restrictions in key areas, and heightened security across the city, the Bengaluru Police are leaving no room for compromise. Major roads, including MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St Marks Road, and Church Street, will witness traffic restrictions on the night of December 31 and January 1, 2024.
5. Lucknow – Section 144 and Public Gathering Restrictions
Lucknow, the city of Nawabs, has implemented section 144 in anticipation of New Year’s festivities. In an effort to control the spread of the virus, public gatherings in malls, bars, restaurants, hotels, and other public spaces have been restricted. The Lucknow district administration is enforcing Section 144, ensuring a balance between celebration and public safety.
