On 28th of April India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, recently addressed the Expert Group of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and SCO Transport Ministers Meeting in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by representatives from SCO member states and observer states.
In his address, Gadkari emphasized the importance of promoting regional connectivity and cooperation among SCO member states. He noted that India has been actively working towards improving transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the region, with a focus on sustainable and green transportation.
Gadkari also highlighted India’s achievements in the road transport sector, including the construction of national highways and the development of new expressways and corridors. He noted that these projects have contributed to the country’s economic growth and improved connectivity between different regions.
The minister also stressed the need for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, especially in light of the growing concerns around climate change. He stated that India is committed to promoting the use of electric vehicles and alternative fuels, and is actively working towards developing the necessary infrastructure for their adoption.
Gadkari also discussed the potential for collaboration between SCO member states in the field of transportation. He noted that India is willing to share its expertise and knowledge in the sector, and urged other member states to collaborate and share best practices for the benefit of the entire region.
The SCO is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising eight member states, including India, China, Russia, and Pakistan, among others. The organization focuses on promoting regional security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges among its member states.
