Vinod Sonkar was born on 18 February 1970 in a small village in Uttar Pradesh. He comes from a humble background and had to face several challenges while growing up. He completed his schooling in his village and later moved to Allahabad for his higher education. He has a Master of Political Science degree from the University of Allahabad.
Vinod Sonkar started his political career as a student leader at Allahabad University. He was actively involved in student politics and was known for his oratory skills and leadership qualities. In 2002, he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and became a member of the Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh. He contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 from Kaushambi and won by a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes.
