Union Minister Nitin Gadkari took to social media today to mark World Ozone Day and extend his warm greetings to people around the world. In his message, he emphasized the critical role of the ozone layer in preserving life on Earth and urged everyone to join hands in its protection.
Gadkari’s message read, “Happy World Ozone Day. Let’s celebrate the protection of our precious ozone layer, a shield that safeguards life on Earth. Together, we can continue to heal the ozone and create a sustainable future for generations to come.”
“World Ozone Day, observed on September 16th every year, serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we hold in preserving and healing the ozone layer, which shields us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. The ozone layer is vital for the well-being of all living organisms on our planet”.
Ozone layer protection has been a global priority since the adoption of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, which aimed to phase out the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances. Over the years, significant progress has been made in reducing the use of such harmful chemicals, leading to the healing of the ozone layer.
