On the 10th of February Nitin Gadkari extends tributes to Thor litterateur Durga Bhagwat on her birth anniversary.
Popularly known as Durga Bhagwat, Indian scholar, socialist, and writer Durga Narayan Bhagwat (10 February 1910 – 7 May 2002) was an influential figure. While studying Sanskrit and Buddhist literature, she spent time in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh to gain insight into tribal life. Afterward, she went back to Mumbai to do research and authored books in Marathi.
Arguably, she is the leading female writer in Marathi. She was one of the prominent writers who opposed The Emergency (India). She declined to accept awards such as the Padma Shree and the Jnanapeeth, both of which are institutional and civilian honors.
