Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was born on February 17, 1954, in Chintamadaka, a village in the Medak district of Telangana. He completed his early education in the village and later moved to Hyderabad to pursue higher studies. KCR, as he is popularly known, is a graduate of arts from Osmania University and also holds a diploma in journalism. KCR started his political career as a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and served as a minister in the cabinets of N.T. Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu.
KCR founded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001 with the aim of achieving a separate state of Telangana. After a long and arduous struggle, Telangana was formed on June 2, 2014, with Hyderabad as its capital. KCR became the first Chief Minister of Telangana and has been re-elected twice since then. He is known for his pro-Telangana stance and his efforts to promote the state’s culture and heritage.
