NTPC to Launch New Edition of Girl Empowerment Mission

NTPC Limited is gearing up to unveil the newest installment of its Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative aimed at tackling gender inequality and fostering the empowerment of young girls. The program, in alignment with the Government of India’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, aims to provide girls from underprivileged backgrounds with a platform for comprehensive upliftment and development.

Scheduled to commence in April 2024, the upcoming edition of GEM will welcome approximately 3,000 deserving children from marginalized communities across 42 identified locations of the power sector PSU. This expansion will bring the total number of beneficiaries under the Mission to over 10,000, marking a significant milestone in NTPC’s commitment to fostering gender equality and empowerment.

Since its inception as a pilot project in 2018, GEM has evolved into a nationwide movement, transcending boundaries and making a tangible impact on the lives of young girls. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years, the program has persevered, expanding its reach and influence. To date, GEM has benefited over 7,400 girls, with participation numbers steadily increasing each year.

The core focus of the GEM Mission is to empower girls through multifaceted interventions that nurture their leadership qualities and prepare them for the future. The comprehensive workshop curriculum covers essential areas such as health, hygiene, safety, fitness, sports, and yoga, equipping participants with the skills and confidence needed to thrive.

Renowned for its holistic approach to skill development and mentorship, the GEM Workshop has garnered widespread acclaim. By providing girls with the tools and support necessary to realize their full potential, NTPC aims to catalyze positive change, not only within individual lives but also within families, communities, and the nation at large. Through initiatives like GEM, NTPC is paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for generations to come.
