President Droupadi Murmu welcomed officers from the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) and probationers of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 17, 2023. In her address, she emphasized the significance of their roles in a period of profound transformation at both local and global levels.

Acknowledging the swift dissemination of new technologies worldwide, President Murmu underscored the pivotal role these officers would play in the nation’s development and global competitiveness. She highlighted that their thoughts, decisions, and actions would be instrumental in shaping the future of defense systems and the country.

“Emphasizing the substantial role of indigenous industries in fostering self-reliance and a robust economy, she urged the officers to facilitate and drive indigenization in defense systems”. With the government’s policy initiatives and reforms to encourage indigenous design and manufacturing, President Murmu highlighted the officers’ responsibility to enhance India’s defense production capabilities.

Noting the remarkable rise in India’s defense exports from Rs. 686 crore in Financial Year (FY) 2013-14 to nearly Rs. 16,000 crore in FY 2022-23, President Murmu stressed the pivotal role of IOFS officers in contributing to the development programs. She envisioned them as catalysts for making India a defense manufacturing hub, actively participating in the country’s journey towards self-sufficiency.

“She expressed confidence in their professional integrity and robust training modules, anticipating their contribution to financial prudence in defense forces and overall nation-building”. Encouraging the adoption of the latest techniques and methods for auditing and accounting, the President emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the functioning of defense systems.

President Droupadi Murmu concluded by instilling a sense of responsibility and purpose in these young officers, urging them to be active contributors to India’s growth story in their respective capacities. The meeting served as a platform for inspiration, guidance, and a shared commitment to building a stronger and more self-reliant nation.
