Despite facing a clash with the highly anticipated ‘Gadar 2,’ Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ has managed to make a commendable opening at the box office. The film, fueled by positive reviews and favorable word of mouth, showcased growth in its evening and night screenings, achieving a double-digit opening on its first day and sparking optimism for a promising weekend ahead.
Starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam alongside Akshay Kumar, ‘OMG 2’ secured a net earning of Rs 10.26 crore in the domestic market on its opening day. The film’s performance saw significant improvement in footfalls as the day progressed. Morning shows began with a modest 18% occupancy, but the figure surged to an impressive 66% during the night screenings, largely attributed to the film’s positive critical reception.
In contrast, the other major release of the day, ‘Gadar 2,’ dominated the box office with a massive opening of Rs 40.10 crore, overshadowing ‘OMG 2’ and impacting its prospects to some extent. Although ‘OMG 2’ faced the challenge of losing some screenings to ‘Gadar 2,’ as exhibitors tend to prioritize larger releases, industry insiders speculate that the Akshay-starrer still holds potential for a decent recovery.
