Phase 2 of Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 1206 Candidates Set to Contest Across 12 States/UTs

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is set to witness a robust electoral contest, with 1206 candidates gearing up to compete across 12 States/UTs. Additionally, 4 candidates from Outer Manipur PC will also be contesting, as per the Gazette notification issued on April 5, 2024.

A total of 2633 nominations were filed for the 88 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) going to polls in phase 2. Following scrutiny, 1428 nominations were found to be valid. Notably, Kerala emerges with the highest number of nominations, tallying at 500 from 20 PCs, closely followed by Karnataka with 491 nominations across 14 PCs.

However, there are variations across different regions, with Tripura recording a minimum of 14 nominations from one PC. Meanwhile, the 16-Nanded Parliamentary Constituency in Maharashtra stands out with a maximum of 92 nominations.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Outer Manipur PC will witness staggered polling dates, with 15 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) going to polls on April 19, 2024 (Phase 1), followed by 13 ACs on April 26, 2024 (Phase 2). Overall, Phase 1 comprises 1625 contesting candidates across 21 States/UTs, featuring 1491 male candidates and 134 female candidates, indicating a diverse electoral landscape across the nation.
