On 29th of April Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Congress of being indifferent towards the needs of Dalit communities in India. In a recent statement, PM Modi stated that Congress has never done anything to ensure the welfare of the poor, Dalits, SCs, STs, or any community. He claimed that it was only the Double-Engine Government of the BJP that worked towards empowering the people and transforming their lives.
“The Double-Engine Government refers to the BJP governments at both the central and state levels. PM Modi’s statement comes at a time when the BJP is gearing up for crucial state elections in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The Dalit vote bank is a significant factor in these elections, and parties are trying to woo them with various promises”.
The Dalit community in India is considered one of the most marginalized sections of society. They have faced discrimination and social exclusion for centuries and continue to face challenges in accessing basic rights and opportunities. The Constitution of India has provisions for affirmative action to uplift the Dalits and other marginalized communities, but the implementation of these measures has been a challenge.
PM Modi’s statement is significant as it aims to portray the BJP as a party that works for the welfare of all communities, including the Dalits. He has frequently emphasized the importance of empowering the marginalized sections of society and has launched several schemes and initiatives aimed at improving their lives.
The BJP and Congress have been at loggerheads over several issues, and the welfare of Dalits and other marginalized communities is one of them. Both parties have promised to improve the lives of these communities in their election manifestos, but the ground reality remains challenging.
PM Modi’s statement accusing Congress of neglecting the needs of Dalits is significant in the current political scenario in India. It aims to showcase the BJP as a party that works towards empowering all communities and transforming their lives. However, the implementation of these promises remains a challenge, and it is essential for political parties to work together to uplift the marginalized sections of society.
