Speaking through a video message, he extended a warm welcome to dignitaries on behalf of the millions engaged in India’s healthcare sector, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists.
Drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, the Prime Minister referenced Gandhi’s book “Key to Health,” emphasizing that health is the foundation of a harmonious life. He recited a Sanskrit shloka that encapsulated the notion that good health is the ultimate wealth, enabling the accomplishment of every task.
Prime Minister Modi lauded the pivotal role of international cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting India’s humanitarian Vaccine Maitri initiative, which delivered 300 million vaccine doses to over 100 countries. He stressed the importance of resilience in global health systems, preparing for future emergencies, and preventing health crises that can rapidly affect interconnected societies.
India’s holistic approach to healthcare was emphasized, encompassing the expansion of health infrastructure, promotion of traditional medicine, and the provision of affordable healthcare for all. The Prime Minister celebrated the International Day of Yoga and the International Year of Millets, both emblematic of India’s commitment to holistic health and wellness.
The establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and the forthcoming WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine were highlighted as pivotal steps to harness the potential of traditional medicine, aiming to build a global repository.
Prime Minister Modi underscored the interconnectivity of health and the environment, praising the steps taken toward the launch of the Climate and Health Initiative and addressing Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR).
Digital solutions and innovations were hailed as catalysts for inclusive healthcare, making quality care accessible through telemedicine. Notably, e-Sanjeevani, India’s national telehealth platform, facilitated 140 million telehealth consultations, while the COWIN platform successfully orchestrated the largest vaccination drive in human history.
Calling for collaboration, the Prime Minister urged nations to share innovations for public benefit, avoid duplication of funding, and ensure equitable access to technology. The Global Initiative on Digital Health aims to unify various digital health initiatives on a common platform.
