On 21st December PM Modi expressed deep grief over the demise of renowned Gamaka exponent and Padma Shri awardee, H.R Keshava Murthy.
“We will always remember Shri H.R. Keshava Murthy for his efforts to popularise Gamaka and celebrate the unique culture of Karnataka. He will also be remembered for his inspiring mentorship of many students. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
About Keshava Murthy:-
Keshava Murthy, who was born on February 22, 1934, and died on December 21, 2022, was an Indian gamaka exponent and guru.
He was honored with Shantala Natya Sri Award by the Government of Karnataka in 1998 and with Padma Shri in 2022 by the Government of India in the field of arts.
Murthy, who is a noted expert in the field of gamaka, received training in music from his father and later from Venkateshaiah. He publicized the Kannada epics Kumaravyasa’s Bharatha and Jaimini’s Bharatha.
The variant of music later came to be known as Keshava Murthy Gharana.
