PM Modi Extends Greetings on Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas: Honoring the Global Indian Diaspora

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extends heartfelt greetings on Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, acknowledging and celebrating the remarkable contributions and accomplishments of the Indian diaspora across the globe. This significant day, observed on 9 January, holds special importance in recognizing the Overseas Indian community’s role in India’s development.

In a statement, PM Modi praised the dedication of the Indian diaspora, highlighting their efforts in preserving India’s rich heritage and fostering strong global ties. Their commitment, according to the Prime Minister, embodies the true spirit of India, creating a sense of unity in diversity around the world.

Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, initiated in 2003, commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on 9 January 1915. Established by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and supported by organizations like FICCI and CII, this celebratory event occurs every two years from 8th to 10th January in a selected city in India.

During the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas convention in 2006, the concept of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) was introduced, emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora.

The event serves as a vital platform for discussing issues concerning the Indian diaspora, offering insights into their challenges and achievements. The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards, presented during the event, recognize individuals for their outstanding contributions to various fields, fostering a sense of pride and connection among the diaspora.

As Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas continues to evolve, it reinforces the idea that the global Indian community plays a pivotal role in shaping India’s narrative on the world stage. PM Modi’s heartfelt wishes resonate with the diaspora, emphasizing the significance of unity, diversity, and shared heritage that binds the Indian diaspora across continents.
