PM Modi Extends Support to Japan After 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake Ravages Central Regions

Japan: A formidable 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck central Japan, leaving a devastating impact with a reported 94 casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure. The earthquake, centered on the Noto Peninsula, has prompted a swift and resolute response from global leaders, with Prime Minister Modi extending solidarity and assurance of support to Japan.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the strategic and global partnership between India and Japan, underlining the significance of their relationship during this challenging time. The earthquake primarily affected the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas, resulting in collapsed buildings, severed roads, and fires in Wajima City.

Wajima City, one of the hardest-hit areas, witnessed the collapse of 25 buildings, including houses, while approximately 200 structures, including shops and houses around Asaichi Street, caught fire. Rescue operations are underway, despite immediate challenges, including restricted access to affected regions. Firefighters are actively engaged in Wajima City, navigating challenging conditions to save lives.

“During a press briefing, Prime Minister Kishida acknowledged ongoing difficulties in reaching certain locations due to damaged roads. Despite these obstacles, Japan’s Meteorological Agency has lifted all tsunami advisories along portions of the country’s western coast as of January 2”.

International assistance is rallying to aid Japan in coping with the aftermath of this devastating earthquake. The tragedy underscores the importance of global cooperation and support during times of crisis, as nations join hands to provide relief and help rebuild the affected regions.
