Know about Ker Puja:
Ker Puja is a significant festival held in the state of Tripura, India. Typically observed in August, the puja holds great importance for both the people and the state. This vibrant celebration, occurring two weeks after the Kharchi Puja, is dedicated to Ker, the revered guardian deity known as Vastu Devata.
During the Ker Puja, various rituals and customs take place to honor Ker and seek his blessings. Offerings and sacrifices are made as part of the puja, accompanied by the creation of a specified boundary. This sacred boundary serves to protect individuals from calamities and external threats, ensuring their well-being and safeguarding the state.
Originally initiated by the Tripura rajas, the Ker Puja holds particular significance for the Halam tribe, who are required to participate in the festival. For 2.5 days, certain restrictions are imposed upon participants, including the reigning sovereign. During this time, entrances to the capital are closed, and individuals are prohibited from wearing shoes, lighting fires, dancing, or singing.
In 2017, Ker Puja was celebrated on the 15th of July, marking a special occasion for the devotees and participants. The festival exemplifies the deep-rooted traditions, cultural heritage, and spiritual beliefs of the people of Tripura.
The Ker Puja serves as a reminder of the religious and cultural diversity present in India. It showcases the devotion and reverence of the people towards their guardian deity, Ker, while fostering a sense of unity and celebration among the community. This annual festival not only upholds ancient customs but also brings people together in prayer, reflection, and the preservation of their rich heritage.
