PM Modi Inaugurates 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists

On August 1, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) at the National Agricultural Science Centre (NASC) Complex in New Delhi. This year’s theme, “Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems,” focuses on sustainable agriculture amid global challenges such as climate change and resource degradation. Approximately 1,000 delegates from 75 countries are attending the conference.

International Conference: India’s Agricultural Legacy and Innovations

In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s long-standing agricultural traditions and its emphasis on science and logic. He praised ancient Indian agricultural texts like ‘Krishi Parashar’ and the country’s robust agricultural research infrastructure, including over 100 ICAR institutes and more than 700 Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Modi noted India’s diverse agro-climatic zones and the importance of this diversity for global food security.

Current Achievements and Future Goals

The Prime Minister lauded India’s progress from a food-deficient nation to a global leader in agricultural production. India is now the largest producer of milk, pulses, and spices, and the second-largest producer of several other key commodities. Modi stressed India’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and its model’s applicability to other developing countries.

Technological Advancements and Global Cooperation

Modi also emphasized the integration of modern technology in agriculture, such as digital crop surveys and soil health cards. He highlighted the benefits of initiatives like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, e-Nam, and advancements in climate-resilient crops. The Prime Minister expressed India’s readiness to share its experiences and innovations with the global community, aiming to strengthen global food security and foster cooperation.
