Addressing the nation from the iconic Red Fort on the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled the upcoming ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’, aimed at empowering skilled artisans from the traditional craftsmanship domain, particularly those from the OBC community. The scheme, with an initial allocation of approximately 13-15 thousand crore rupees, seeks to uplift weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, barbers, and similar families.
Highlighting the Government’s poverty alleviation endeavors, PM Modi noted that over 13.5 crore individuals have transitioned from poverty to the new middle class during the first five-year term. He emphasized key initiatives, including the PM SVANidhi scheme, which allocated ₹50,000 crore to street vendors, and the direct disbursement of ₹2.5 lakh crore to farmers through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
