On the 9th of January PM Modi arrived in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He will take part in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention.
The Republic of India celebrates the contributions of the overseas Indian community to India’s development of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, starting on January 9, 2003. Mahatma Gandhi returned to Mumbai from South Africa on 9 January 1915, a day which is now commemorated.
It is sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industries, and the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region and was established in 2000.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards are given at a celebratory event held from the 8th to the 10th of January every other year in a selected city in India. The event is a forum for issues concerning the Indian Diaspora.
