Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a historic distribution drive under the SVAMITVA Scheme, granting property cards to over 65 lakh property owners across 50,000 villages in more than 230 districts spanning 10 states and two Union territories.
The distribution event, scheduled for January 18 at 12:30 pm via video conferencing, reinforces the government’s commitment to rural empowerment.
Understanding the SVAMITVA Scheme
Launched on April 24, 2020, on National Panchayati Raj Day, the SVAMITVA Scheme aims to transform rural governance by offering a “Record of Rights” to property owners in village abadi areas.
Leveraging advanced drone and GIS technologies, the initiative ensures accurate property surveys, reducing disputes and empowering rural households with official documentation.
Key Benefits of the Scheme
The SVAMITVA Scheme serves multiple purposes:
- Economic Empowerment: Facilitates the monetization of properties and access to institutional credit.
- Dispute Reduction: Mitigates property-related disputes through clear ownership records.
- Improved Planning: Enables better property tax assessment and comprehensive village planning.
SVAMITVA Scheme: PM Modi Empowers Rural India
Drone surveys have covered over 3.17 lakh villages, completing 92% of the target. To date, 2.25 crore property cards have been prepared for 1.53 lakh villages, with significant progress in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Union Territories.
The SVAMITVA Scheme has set a benchmark for rural governance, with PM Modi’s upcoming distribution drive marking another milestone in India’s journey toward economic and social equality.
