Mumbai: After the successful inauguration of the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to make another visit to Mumbai on February 19th. This time, he will mark the inauguration of a portion of the coastal road’s phase one and lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Vadhavan port project in Palghar.
The first phase of the coastal road project is nearing completion, with the southward lane from Breach Candy to Marine Drive set to be inaugurated by PM Modi. Following the inauguration ceremony, Modi will traverse through the lane and head towards Azad Maidan, where he is scheduled to address a rally. The event will also be attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will launch three significant infrastructure projects by laying their foundation stones. These projects include the Vadhavan port in Palghar district, an underground tunnel through Sanjay Gandhi National Park connecting Borivali and Thane, and another tunnel for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR).
The Vadhavan port holds strategic importance as a flagship project of the central government and is poised to become the largest port in Maharashtra. The project has undergone rigorous scrutiny and awaits final clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, having already secured approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority.
The Thane Borivali tunnel project, which traverses beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is being developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Meanwhile, the Goregaon Mulund link road project, initially halted in the 1960s due to environmental concerns, has been revived with a modified alignment passing under Vihar Lake.
As Prime Minister Modi embarks on this significant visit, it underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and connectivity, fostering growth, and realizing the vision of a robust and prosperous Maharashtra.
