Delivering his address on the 77th Independence Day from the iconic Red Fort, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced the government’s initiative to empower Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) with the goal of creating 2 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ (prosperous sisters) in rural areas. The PM highlighted the significant association of 10 crore women with Women’s Self-Help Groups, envisioning the presence of capable ‘Didis’ in various roles like banking, Anganwadi centers, and healthcare.
Focusing on agri-tech advancements, the Prime Minister emphasized harnessing the potential of science and technology for rural development. He revealed plans to provide loans and training to 15,000 Women’s Self-Help Groups to operate and repair drones, thereby enabling these groups to undertake “Drone ki Udaan” (Flight of Drones), an innovative venture aimed at leveraging modern technology for rural progress.
