Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 108th Indian Science Congress tomorrow in Nagpur, which will focus on sustainable development with the inclusive involvement of all sections of society, including women.
“The theme of this year’s Science Congress has been very thoughtfully finalized as ‘Science & Technology for Sustainable Development with Femail Empowerment,'” said Dr. Jitendra Singh in a pre-conference briefing to the media.
The Conference will deliberate on holistic growth, review economies and sustainable goals, while at the same time addressing the possible obstacles to the growth of women in science & technology, he said.
The Minister said that this year’s Indian Science Congress will have a ‘Children’s Science Congress in order to give kids opportunities to use their scientific knowledge and creativity through experiments.
“Tribal Science Congress” has been titled as a new event being added to this year’s Science Congress by Dr. Jitendra Singh. The aim of this is to empower tribal women and also provide a platform to display indigenous accent knowledge systems and practices.
The Minister informed us that the Plenary Sessions will feature Nobel Laureates, leading Indian and foreign researchers, experts, and technocrats from a wide variety of fields, including space, defense, IT, and medical research.
He added that the technical sessions will showcase path-breaking and applied research in Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Animal, Veterinary, and Fishery Sciences, Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth System Sciences, Engineering Sciences, and different types of sciences.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also referred to the mega expo “Pride of India” as a special attraction of the event. The expo will display the strengths and achievements of Government, Corporate, PSUs, Academic and R&D Institutes, Innovators & Entrepreneurs from all across the country.
The exhibition will showcase the prominent developments, major achievements, and significant contributions largely of Indian Science and Technology to society.
These 14 sections are in addition to the Women’s Science Congress, the Farmers’ Science Congress, the Children’s Science Congress, the Tribal Meet, the section on Science and Society, and the Science Communicators’ Congress.
The following dignitaries will grace the inaugural session: Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Maharashtra Public Universities, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Union Minister and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of RTMNU Centenary celebrations, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Maharastra.
Prominent figures such as the Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Dr. Subhash R. Chaudhari, and General President of (ISCA), Kolkata, Dr. (Mrs.) Vijay Laxmi Saxena will be present.
The Vigyan Jyot – Flame of Knowledge – was inspired by the Olympic flame. The purpose of the movement is to cultivate scientific temper in society, particularly among young people. The flame, which was installed at the University campus, will continue to be alight until the end of the 108th Indian Science Congress.
