In the world of Indian politics, Dr. Virendra Kumar is a name that commands respect and admiration. He is currently serving as the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the Government of India. Dr. Kumar has had a long and illustrious career as a politician, social worker, and educationist.
Dr. Virendra Kumar was born on 27th February 1954 in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University in Sagar and later obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from the same university. Dr. Kumar went on to earn a Master’s degree in Political Science from Barkatullah University in Bhopal.
Dr. Virendra Kumar started his political career in 1989 when he was elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Sagar constituency. He was re-elected in 1993 and 1998. In 1999, Dr. Kumar was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Sagar constituency and he has been a Member of Parliament (MP) ever since. He has been re-elected to the Lok Sabha five times from the same constituency.
During his tenure as an MP, Dr. Virendra Kumar has served on several committees such as the Committee on Home Affairs, the Committee on Human Resource Development, and the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Rural Development and the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, and Sanitation.
In July 2021, Dr. Virendra Kumar was appointed as the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the Government of India. As a minister, he has been actively involved in the development and implementation of various schemes and programs for the welfare of disadvantaged communities such as the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Persons with Disabilities.
