PM Modi arrived at the Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan, where he was warmly welcomed by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. This historic visit marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Head of Government to Brunei, highlighting India’s commitment to strengthening ties under its ‘Act East Policy.’

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the visit, both leaders discussed a broad spectrum of topics including defense, trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. They also focused on expanding collaboration in ICT, fintech, cyber security, renewable energy, and new technologies. This strategic partnership aims to enhance cooperation between India and Brunei, fostering mutual growth and development.

Key Agreements and Collaborations

An important outcome of the visit was the signing of an MoU on Cooperation in Telemetry, Tracking, and Telecommand Stations for satellites. Additionally, the leaders celebrated the initiation of a direct flight connection between Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai, which is expected to further boost bilateral interactions.

The visit concluded with an official lunch hosted by His Majesty in honor of PM Modi. The discussions underscored a mutual commitment to regional and global stability, including a unified stance against terrorism. The visit paves the way for deeper cooperation and invites His Majesty to visit India, reinforcing the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
