PM Modi is scheduled for a two-day tour starting on January 2, 2024, with Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep in focus. The itinerary comprises a series of events aimed at inaugurating and dedicating several key development projects, reflecting the government’s dedication to fostering progress and prosperity.
Day 1 – Tamil Nadu Itinerary:
Convocation Ceremony at Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli: PM Modi will be the Chief Guest at the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. Recognizing academic excellence, he will present awards to meritorious students and address the gathering.
Public Programme in Tiruchirappalli: In a subsequent public program, PM Modi will inaugurate the New Terminal Building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport. The state-of-the-art facility, developed at a cost of over 1100 crores, is designed to accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually, enhancing connectivity and passenger convenience.
Railway and Road Projects Dedication: The Prime Minister will dedicate multiple railway and road projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic development in Tamil Nadu. These projects include the doubling of rail sections, electrification initiatives, and the inauguration of road projects facilitating safer and faster travel.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Sector Projects: PM Modi will dedicate and lay the foundation stone for significant projects in the petroleum and natural gas sector, contributing to regional energy needs and employment generation.
Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP): PM Modi will inaugurate the DFRP at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, a pioneering step toward building large-scale fast reactor fuel reprocessing plants.
Day 2 – Lakshadweep Itinerary:
Internet Connectivity and Development Initiatives: In Lakshadweep, PM Modi will inaugurate the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI – SOFC) project, significantly enhancing internet speed in the region. He will also dedicate to the nation the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat and Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in Agatti and Minicoy islands, addressing the challenge of potable water scarcity.
Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Projects: The Prime Minister will dedicate Lakshadweep’s first-ever battery-backed solar power project at Kavaratti, reducing dependency on diesel-based power. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the renovation of the Primary Health Care facility in Kalpeni and the construction of five model Anganwadi Centres (Nand Ghars) in various islands.
