PM Narendra Modi to Launch “PM Vishwakarma” Scheme: Fostering Traditional Crafts and Artisans

On the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the “PM Vishwakarma” scheme on September 17, 2023, at approximately 11 AM. The launch will take place at the India International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi.

Key Highlights of PM Vishwakarma:

  • Government Funding: The scheme will be fully funded by the Union Government, with a budget of Rs 13,000 crore.
  • Registration through Biometrics: Vishwakarma will be registered free of charge using the biometric-based PM Vishwakarma portal through Common Services Centres.
  • Recognition and Skill Upgradation: Artisans will receive recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificates and ID cards. Skill development will include both basic and advanced training.
  • Toolkit Incentive: Artisans will receive a toolkit incentive of ₹15,000.
  • Collateral-Free Credit: The scheme offers collateral-free credit support of up to ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and ₹2 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%.
  • Digital Transactions Incentive: There will be incentives for digital transactions, promoting a cashless ecosystem.
  • Marketing Support: The scheme aims to provide marketing support to artisans and craftspeople, expanding their reach.

Empowering Artisans Across India:

PM Vishwakarma will offer support to artisans and craftspeople in both rural and urban areas across India. The scheme covers eighteen traditional crafts, including carpentry, boat making, blacksmithing, goldsmithing, pottery, sculpture, and more. It seeks to strengthen the Guru-Shishya parampara (mentor-disciple tradition) and integrate artisans into domestic and global value chains.
