Premprakash Dhankani: PremPrakash Dhankani, a key figure in a sprawling drug trafficking network, has been apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bangalore on charges related to the illegal production and distribution of methaqualone tablets, a prohibited psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act.
The arrest follows an investigation triggered by a Prosecution Complaint filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Jaipur, against Late Subhash Dudani and others under various sections of the NDPS Act. ED’s probe uncovered a staggering quantity of methaqualone trafficked over the years, totaling several metric tons and resulting in proceeds amounting to Rs.118.76 Crore.
Dhankani’s alleged involvement extends back to the late 1990s, with the establishment of multiple entities both in India and abroad, dedicated to the manufacturing, transportation, and distribution of methaqualone tablets. These operations saw the smuggling of contraband drugs to African countries and Dubai, with the proceeds laundered through elaborate channels, including Hawala transactions.
The investigation also implicates other individuals, including Parmeshwar Vyas and Ravi Dudani, who were arrested earlier and are currently in judicial custody. Additionally, ED has issued provisional attachment orders for 21 immovable properties valued at Rs. 13.02 Crore, located in Udaipur, Mumbai, and Rajasmand.
Premprakash Dhankani’s arrest marks a significant development in unraveling the complex web of drug trafficking and money laundering, underscoring the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime and safeguard the public welfare.
