On the 10th of January, President Draupadi Murmu held wide-ranging discussions with the President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfa1 in Indore on the sidelines of the 17th PBD Conference. They discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors including oil and gas, healthcare, training, and capacity building.
Mohamed Irfaan Ali, born on 25 April 1980, is a Guyanese politician who has been serving as the tenth and current president of Guyana since 2020. He is the second Muslim head of state in the Americas, after Noor Hassanali of Trinidad and Tobago.
Before becoming the presidential candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in the March 2020 general election, Ali was a member of parliament (MP) and the minister of housing.
After months of legal challenges regarding the integrity of the election and even a consequential recount of all ballots, he was sworn in as Guyana’s tenth president on 2 August 2020.
