President Droupadi Murmu Extends Greetings on Civil Services Day

President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to all civil servants on the occasion of Civil Services Day, recognizing their unwavering commitment to serving the nation. She lauded their efforts in upholding the great legacy of contributing to the country’s advancement with relentless determination.

In her address, President Murmu underscored the importance of civil services in navigating the dynamic environment while adhering to the fundamental values elucidated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in his historic speech on this day in 1947 – dignity, integrity, and incorruptibility. She expressed confidence in the ability of civil servants to continue prioritizing the welfare of fellow citizens, placing the nation first in all endeavors.

Civil Services Day, observed annually on April 21, serves as a moment of reflection and recommitment for civil servants across the nation. It provides an opportunity for introspection and strategizing to effectively tackle the evolving challenges of contemporary times.

The significance of April 21 stems from its commemoration of the day in 1947 when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the inaugural Home Minister of Independent India, addressed probationers of Administrative Services Officers, imparting invaluable guidance and inspiration.

On this auspicious occasion, the Prime Minister of India honors outstanding officers of Central and State Governments with the ‘Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration’. Instituted in 2006, these awards recognize individual officers, groups, or organizations for their exemplary contributions to public administration. Recipients are bestowed with a medal, scroll, and a cash prize of ₹100,000 (US$1,300), with a higher sum allocated for groups and organizations.

As civil servants across the nation celebrate Civil Services Day, they renew their commitment to serving the people and reaffirm their dedication to upholding the values of integrity, transparency, and service to the nation.
