Delhi: The 14th National Voters’ Day Celebrations took place in New Delhi on January 25, 2024, with the esteemed presence and address of the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu. At the event, the President presented the Best Electoral Practices Awards for 2023 to commendable State and District level officers, along with recognition for government departments, media organizations, and other stakeholders for their substantial contributions to voters’ awareness.
Acknowledging the vastness and diversity of Indian democracy, the President praised the Election Commission’s pivotal role in its journey. With 17 general elections and over 400 assembly elections conducted so far, she lauded both current and past Election Commission teams for ensuring fairness in the election process.
“Emphasizing the successful integration of modern technology in the electoral process, the President highlighted India’s example for democratic nations worldwide. She expressed confidence in the continued enhancement of technology’s effective use in all election-related activities by the Election Commission”.
Recognizing the challenges of ensuring accessibility for voters nationwide, the President commended the Election Commission’s efforts, particularly the provision of home voting facilities. She noted the positive impact of such initiatives, making the election process more inclusive.
Turning her attention to the youth, the President congratulated new voters on obtaining their Elector Photo Identity Cards. Emphasizing their increased responsibilities, she regarded them as representatives of the millions of youth shaping India’s future, set to play a decisive role in building a golden India by 2047.
The President received the inaugural copy of ‘ECI Initiatives for General Elections 2024′ from Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar. National Voters’ Day, celebrated annually on January 25 since 2011, marks the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The day aims to raise electoral awareness and encourage citizens’ participation, with the theme for 2024 being ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure.’
